چکیده
INTRODUCTION ADZCREASED MAXIMUM B R E A T H I N G capacity suggests a poor prognosis in patients with chronic pulmonary disease.' .4 reduction in maximum breathing capacity occurs either when the amount of functioning lung tissue is diminished as in fib& or other nstrictive lung diseases, or when diffuse pulmonary obstruction limits the velocity with which air can bc moved as in chronic bronchitis and unphysmna. Both fib& and bronchial obstruction arc reported to occur in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis.'" The purpose of this study is: (1 ) to ascertain the fate of patients with tuberculosis who had severely reduced breathing capacity (less than 40 per cent of the predicted value), and (2 ) to determine in these patients the inadence and the usual cause of reduction of maximum breathing capacity of this magnitude.

Prognostic value of various metabolic parameters on pre-treatment 18-F-FDG PET/CT in patients with stage I-III non-small cell lung cancer
Background: the aim of this study was to investigate the prognostic value of 18Fluorine-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) parameters in both overall survival and progression-free survival in Stage I-III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study, 267 patients who were diagnosed as Stage I-III non-smal...
متن کاملPulmonary function and circulatory dynamics in artificial pneumoperitoneum. II. Studies on patients with pneumoperitoneum as a therapeutic measure in pulmonary emphysema.
Although pneumoperitoneum at present is most widely used as a form of collapse therapy in pulmonary tuberculosis, this procedure had been applied some years earlier in the treatment of chronic pulmonary emphysema. In 1924 Reich’ reported on this procedure, considering 300 to 500 cc. the ideal amount of air. He found greatly improved diaphragmatic motion, increased tidal air and respiratory minu...
متن کاملRelationship between external resistances, lung function changes and maximal exercise capacity.
In upper airway obstruction (UAO) the relationship between the degree of obstruction, exercise limitation and lung function indices is not well established. Therefore, we investigated in nine healthy subjects (age 36+/-9 yrs) the effects of two added resistances at the mouth (R1 = added resistance with 7.8 mm diameter; R2 = 5.7 mm) on forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), peak expirato...
متن کاملRole of pathologic prognostic factors in breast cancer patients with isolated bone metastasis and relationship between SUVmax and prognostic factors
Introduction: 18F-FDG PET/CT provides very effective results in detecting metastases of breast cancer. In our study, we investigated the relationship between maximum standard uptake value (SUVmax) and prognostic pathologic factors in breast cancer cases with isolated bone metastasis and whether there was any difference in terms of prognostic pathologic factors betwee...
متن کاملThe Prognostic Value of Serine and Glycine Levels in Plasma in Patients with Esophageal Cancer: A Case Control Study
Background and Objective: Serine and glycine are connecting lines for biosynthesis and are essential resources for synthesis of proteins, nucleic acids and lipids that are necessary for cancer cell growth. The purpose of this study was to set a comparison of serine and glycine in patients with esophageal cancer and in healthy people. Materials and Methods: 37 plasma samples were collected from...
